Several factors will influence the alignment of your teeth: genetics, thumb sucking as a child, the loss of a tooth or teeth, or a traumatic accident to the face. The misalignment of your teeth can lead to other oral health problems, including dental malocclusion (a bad bite), abnormal enamel wear, trouble speaking and chewing, as well as toothaches and jaw pain. If a member of our MINT dentistry team notices signs or symptoms of one of these issues during your dental exam, we may recommend an orthodontic treatment, like Invisalign®.
Invisalign® is great for both adults and teens who want straighter teeth without the hassle and appearance of traditional metal braces. While they do need to be worn most of the time, Invisalign® can be taken out so you can brush your teeth and eat, as well as for special events and playing sports. Far more discreet than metal braces, other people usually will not be able to tell that you are wearing your Invisalign® trays.
What to Expect
Your first set of Invisalign® trays will be created using digital impressions taken at MINT dentistry. You will return to receive your first set of aligners and specific care instructions from one of our skilled doctors. You will need to wear your aligners at least 20 – 22 hours each day for the system to be effective, ideally removing them only for eating and cleaning. Over time, you will move to the next set of aligners as they gently move your teeth into their proper position. You will need to schedule follow-up appointments every 4 – 6 weeks to have the fit of your aligners checked and have more digital impressions taken so new sets of aligners can be made. The length of time that you will use Invisalign® will vary based on the original position of your teeth and your goals, but most patients wear aligners for about 10 – 18 months.
Once your bite is aligned and you are done with your Invisalign® trays, it's important to keep your teeth in place while your gums and jaw adjust. Invisalign® Vivera® retainers are designed with the same comfortable materials as the aligner trays to help keep your teeth in place after your treatment is complete. Each retainer is custom made at the Invisalign® dental laboratory based on digital impressions taken once your treatment is complete. A member of the MINT dentistry team will speak with you about how often to wear your retainer and how to care for it once it is sent back to our facility from the Invisalign® dental lab. Our team will continue to monitor your teeth alignment and bite at your dental exams to ensure they remain straight.
The MINT Commitment
In many cases, at least a part of the cost your Invisalign® treatment is covered by dental insurance. Our front office will confirm your benefits and calculate your personal cost. MINT dentistry accepts many different payment methods for patients who don't have dental insurance. During your initial consultation, MINT dentistry’s support staff can go over your estimated bill and ways to make your Invisalign® treatment more affordable, including flexible payment plans and medical financing.
